AS Roma striker Artem Dovbyk has detailed why he chose to move to Bologna, citing the club’s ambitious plans and the coaching approach of new coach Domenico Tedesco. In an interview with Bologna's official channels, Dovbyk explained his reasons behind the transfer.
Dovbyk revealed that Tedesco's approach was refreshingly straightforward: 'I chose Bologna thanks to the sporting directors and also to the coach, Domenico Tedesco,' he said. 'He asked me just one question: “Do you want to play for Bologna?” I said yes, and then we had a chat where he explained the project and the ambition of a club that wants to achieve excellent results this season.'
For a forward coming off a challenging spell in Rome, the appeal of Bologna is clear. The club has a reputation for developing strikers, and Dovbyk, who previously shone at Girona and in La Liga, hopes to follow suit and return to his best form.
‘I know that several strikers who’ve played here have improved a lot,’ he said. ‘I’ll just try to help the team by scoring as many goals as possible. I’m ambitious and eager to play, and I want to get back to my top condition.’
Dovbyk was also impressed with his first impressions of Bologna: 'My first impressions are of a very united group, almost like a family,' he added. 'Everyone fights for one another, and there are players with excellent individual qualities. I’ve often played against Bologna, and they were always difficult games.'
