Negotiations with Porto Stall Over Obligation-to-Buy Clause
AS Roma's transfer talks for Rodrigo Mora have hit a snag as the club rejected Porto’s obligation-to-buy terms, leading to a pause in negotiations. According to O Jogo, discussions were halted when both parties clashed over the conditions set by Porto regarding an obligation to buy.
Porto proposed a package of 50 million euros, including a rental fee of 10 million and an option to purchase for 40 million, with performance-based adjustments possible. The offer also included a sell-on percentage and covering all wages of the player.
Negotiations were broken off in the early hours of Wednesday after Roma rejected initial terms that included Champions League qualification and a set number of appearances. Coach Villas-Boas deemed these conditions unacceptable.
The atmosphere is tense, but the deal has not collapsed yet. Jorge Mendes has been mediating, but there was no contact between the clubs yesterday.
Roma must now decide whether to accept Porto’s demands or at least improve the pathway to an obligation to buy. Otherwise, Mora will remain in the squad, as Farioli recently stated that anyone who stays would get chances given the number of competitions Roma participates in.
While the impasse persists, the midfielder continues to train at Olival and could come into the coach's plans.
