Ruben Amorim has stated that Roma and Inter are distant for current performance. The Sporting CP coach made the comment analysing the paths of his former Italian clubs after the 2-2 draw between Roma and Inter on September 19th.
The Portuguese manager acknowledged a recent difficult spell for his side that has now been overcome. He declared that his team was a bit blocked in the last few games, a bit static. "I think the freedom of the players, the movement and especially the runs from behind made the difference."
The comparison with his former clubs
Amorim then turned his attention to Serie A, where he has managed both Inter and Roma. "I believe Roma and Inter are distant," he said, without elaborating further on the comparison. He added that opposing teams have had more time together and their playing mechanisms are clearer.
Despite the challenges, his Sporting side has not dropped many points. Reflecting on the first five matches, Amorim argued his team deserved more, having been in a position to beat Lazio and conceding a late equaliser to Juventus. He emphasises that, while he listens to the players, the final decisions on formations are his responsibility as the head coach of a major team.
The situation in Italy sees Roma top of the table with 13 points. The 2-2 draw against Inter last September 19th is part of a solid start to the season, with the team unbeaten in their last five. The next fixture is an away trip to Como, who sit fifth, on October 11th.
