Return to Serie A: Ferguson Close to Loan Move to Genoa

Genoa and Brighton have agreed on a loan deal for Evan Ferguson, the Irish striker who is set to return to Serie A. According to Sky Sport, the deal will see Ferguson join Genoa on loan, with the Italian club covering 30% of his wages. The player is not expected to be available until early October.

Loan Pattern for Ferguson

The move continues a pattern for Ferguson, who has experienced numerous loan spells after a difficult time at West Ham at the beginning of 2025 and a season at Roma the previous year, where an ankle injury limited his appearances in the league to 16 and his goals to three. Genoa, led by Daniele De Rossi, has been searching for a recognized center-forward after summer departures left the club short up front, and are prepared to be patient with Ferguson's recovery, hoping to get the best out of a player once considered one of the Premier League's brightest young strikers.

Ferguson, 25, started his career at Brighton, where he scored 16 goals in 36 appearances, before moving to West Ham, where he played 16 league games with two goals. Last year at Roma, he played 16 league games with three goals, but was limited by an ankle injury. The loan to Genoa could offer Ferguson a new opportunity after his previous travels, and could be a significant step in his career after the health issues he has faced in recent years.
