AS Roma has loaned midfielder Ismael Salah-Eddine to Panathinaikos. The deal is official and includes an option for the Greek club to make the move permanent.

The Dutch player, born in 2003, will spend the 2026-27 season in Greece. Panathinaikos will have the chance to purchase his contract at the loan's conclusion. Roma announced the agreement without disclosing the financial details of the option.

Salah-Eddine, who joined the Giallorossi in 2022, had struggled to break into the first team in recent seasons. The attacking winger made few senior appearances and spent last year on loan at Twente. The maturation of the midfield department, with new arrivals and the development of youngsters like Edoardo Bove and Nicola Zalewski, had limited his pathway.

The club viewed a loan spell in a competitive league like Greece's as a positive step for his development. Panathinaikos, competing in the Super League, will offer the Dutch talent regular playing time. The move aligns with the club's strategy of developing academy prospects through loan experiences.

Roma approaches this transfer window from a position of strength in the league. Daniele De Rossi's side sits second in Serie A with 9 points, just one behind leaders Lazio. Their form is excellent, with three wins from three matches and a goal difference of +9, having scored 10 and conceded just once.

The latest result, a 2-0 away win at Torino, confirmed the positive momentum. Top scorer Donyell Malen, with 5 goals this season, and Nicola Pisilli were on the scoresheet. The next fixture is a big home match against Inter, who are third, on September 19. Fans can check the full schedule on our fixtures page and view the updated roster on squad.

For Salah-Eddine, the move to Greece represents a fresh opportunity to revive his career. The loan deal expires at the end of the current season.
